Time to get back into the airport dioramas. One thing I almost never see in people's models are plausible taxiways and runways. Hopefully my additions will keep it 'as real as it gets'. Here's the start:

In trying to keep it looking realistic it pays to checkout real sources when designing your airport. Know its time to markup the taxiways and runways that's just what I have done. Phase 2 is nearing completion so check out progress here:

Realistic backgrounds are possibly the most difficult thing for any large diorama. Finally I have worked out a way to get them looking good though. Thanks to Gavin Miller for the inspiration - here's how to do it:

The entire model (2 terminals and the runway part) is made up of 3 2x4 ft MDF panels so it's not huge. T1 has 12 gates and T2 has 22-24 depending on arrangement
