  • Air Force 1 - Northrop P-61B Black Widow "Lady in the Dark" (AF-00113A)

This one just landed in my collection from the FlyingMule:

    Air Force 1
    Northrop P-61B Black Widow
    USAAF 548th NFS, #42-39408
    "Lady in the Dark"
Le Shima Island, August 14th, 1945
    Item: AF-00113A (Series 2)

Finally someone made a P-61B in diecast metal in 1:72 scale, this aircraft has always been of great interest to me and I'm glad Air Force 1 took the challenge to make it. It has some good weight to it: weighing in at just over 1.3 lb. Quality is pretty good, nothing big to complain about. I know some people took off the canopy of their models to put in a HM WWII pilot figures (I might attempt it at a later time, for now I like the way it looks now).

P-61 #42-39408 wore nose-art bearing the name "Lady in the Dark" and was piloted in the Pacific Theater by Major Lee Kendall with the 548th Night Fighter Squadron. On August 14th, 1945 this aircraft was credited with the last Allied victory of the war.

    Here's some pictures:

Beautiful plane! I've never been a huge fan of planes pre-jet era, but this plane looks amazing, the colors, the curves, the wings. I can see why you went ahead and bought this. I might look into one for myself.

Sure is an assume model. We have good stock on both the signed and unsigned versions, but they are selling well, so I do expect the first release to sell out soon.
