  • Thoughts about Search drop-down boxes

I love the fact the fact that you've put those most frequently used manufacurers and scales at the top of their lists. Excellent.

At the risk of antagonising anyone collecting only 3M's and 360's, is this approach suitable for "Aircraft"? When you select it you are presented with a nice big box, but it contains entries that I'll rarely use - I find myself despising 11, 167 Brabazon and 2M. I'm not too concerned about -200, -300..., but B 737 and B 747 and a few others perhaps, would be really nice to see first.

Another thought. Say I'm looking for United Express. When I click the Airline box and type in U I'm presented with the Tr and Tu entries with the first U at the bottom. So I have to scroll down. It would be nice if it were possible to have that first U entry displayed at the top, so that in the case of United Express I could just click it without any fuss.

I appreciate that there may be all sorts of considerations of which I'm unaware, not least the time and effort it takes to make changes. But, for me, these would be nice to have.

    Thanks.
    Chris

I added popular aircraft to the Advanced Search, we will leave the quick search as it is for now.

The drop down key press issue - try any other website or browser and you'll run across the same issue. Its the way browsers are coded. See the same behavior here: http://ircalc.usps.com/

If you find a site that doesn't do it, please let us know.

    thanks for the ideas!

I'd never thought about this key press issue before - I'd say a fundamental error when they invented browsers.

I had a look at the advanced search and I think there are a couple of issues:

      1. The Boeings, A31x and A32x aren't working. Do the boeings need a space between the B and the 7?
      2. Have we buggered things up for B737-200 fanatics ? Previously they might have been unhappy at having to scroll a little after entering their B, but now they're only dribbling down 2 inches to B707. I'm sure there are ways around this, but they might need a bit of thought.

Ok those are fixed now. I just added in the A318, 19, 20, 21 etc.. Fixed the Boeings as well

Other than setting "preferences" for each user, there isn't really a way around it. The menus are database driven, so we'd have to create a unique menu for each person. I'm not saying this is impossible, we can do it. Just have to weigh it against other to-dos.

Can the B 377 Stratocrusier entry , with the 'i' transposed, be removed please? - The one with the incorrect spelling as the correct one is there too B 377 Stratocruiser.

This is fixed, we had a few entries with it spelled incorrectly. All are fixed.

on the TRADES page, I just found the most frequently used manufacturers and scales at the top of their lists, but theaircraft drop down box does not. It's also missing the base airframe i.e. 707, 727; instead it starts with 707-100, 707-300, etc & 727-100, etc.

                  1. Ok so the dropdowns in the trade list are actually built by what is really available for trades - that is we do not show an option for a 737-900 if no one has one available for trading, the reason being we don't want you to think there is one available. So if we put say B737 at the top, and there were none available for trade, we'd get pissed off buyers. The quick picks in the database search are because we do know that we have a 737s in the database. Ideas?
                  2. 200 private messages, these aren't "emails", refer to them as PMs
                  3. That is on a feature request with the maker of the forums software
                  4. Currently there isn't; no plans to add that right now.

                  FireAngleZero,
Sorry to confuse, but we didn't fix that. We can't replicate it here at all. :(
                  thanks for answers

                        Yes of course, complicated issue.
Ideally it would be top 10 from a user's want list/collection, but that would be hard to program (and a real time thing),
so I think just the global top 10 that all users have in their collections/wants, or just the top 10 from the database overall (regardless of what people actually have)
