  • What new features should we add to DiMA next?

So what should we do next here on DiMA? Here are some features we have on our "to do" list, a few we can't discuss!

Which of these would you like to see? Do you have other ideas?
    1. Make buyer/collectors popup window via ajax in model detail screen rather than a new window
    2. Report an error feature for models
    3. Top Secret
    4. Make the collection list more compact (optionally?).
    5. In the form to add a new model, offer a clickable calendar, or at least a hint re. format (MM/DD/YYYY).
    6. similar models box in detail display
    7. TOP SECRET
    8. Pending models list
    9. Multiple delete in collection
    10. Top Secret

Not exactly a new feature, but can we have a dedicated 1:500 scale section, please? Approval of user-submitted models and photos takes quite a while now. Is there really only one person to do this? How about making submitted models public (is that what you mean by #8?). If two users other than the submitter approve the entry, accept it. Alternatively, recruit a team of volunteers. Or do both. ;-) #2, 5 get my vote.

Can't promise anything, but I'll surely post there. And I usually have good information to share.

            Thanks.

Oh, and please do something about the iOS ForumRunner app crashing on DiMA on the individual thread level, if you can.

Forumrunner issues have to be taken up with them, we don't supply or code any part of that. Sorry to say.

Of course you don't ;-) I thought there might be something wrong with whatever part of this site they use to feed the app... Happy to report the issue to them, though.

I agree with mmu69 on that one. The first time I ever submitted model pictures it was up within 2 minutes, I uploaded a picture for a different model last night, and I'm still waiting to see if it's approved, or if I need to upload it again.

Edit: Also, is there anyway that when you are searching for a model in the DB it can be easier for you to check for only models that are In-Stock through either Waffle or Diecastairplane?

Waffle handles most of the db entries. Per #8 in list above, that would be the "window" in to the user submitted model queue; that queue right now is at 31 models. Some may be rejected due to poor or lacking information that makes it impossible to add. Remember, these models are secondary to what waffle puts in each day - mainstream models, new releases, etc. Each model that is submitted, whether via waffle or users, goes through a massive triage for data. This is verification of sources, registrations, engines etc. Each of this takes time, if you don't then you wind up with a DB like those that can be found elsewhere. Adding volunteers doesn't solve the problem until they are properly trained and approved - with out that, you get a wiki style site that is a mish-mosh of incorrect data.

The more data you can fill out in the submit form will help us go faster.

If there is a model that needs to be put in sooner for whatever reason, please email database@diecastmodelaircraft.com with your request after you submit it. We'll do our best.

Noted, we will check on how quickly this can be added. I like that idea.

Just had two submissions rejected. It'd be helpful to know how there was "insufficient data" (I don't think there was). Just so I can avoid such submissions in future. ;-) Get rid of the "engines" field; they can be looked up at eg. Airfleets.net. So it's easier to vet submissions.

Getting the info for each model we look up would be fantastic & i hope it can be done. For now though you can add the model to "your want" list & select the box near the top (view pic) Click image for larger version
