  • Any recommendations for a replacement for FSX?

Hey guys! I'm running into the Flight Sim Thread because I'm very curious but here it goes! Since I've loved planes (for more than 10 years now) I've loved Flight Simming. My first Sim software was FS98 (yea I know ancient), since the years of FS98, I've upgraded to FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, FSX so on and had never had a problem up until the technology age moved towards the 64-bit architecture, AKA Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8 in which case I've noticed that the newer the version of Windows, the more issues I get with FSX. I've gone through many Microsoft help centers, and even Flightsim.com (which is where I download all of my jets, scenery, ect.). ANYWHO! Long story short! I've had Windows 8.1 for almost a month and 8.1 has ABSOLUTELY no support for FSX with my ATI graphics card. So since I'm giving up on the Microsoft Flight simulator family (due to Microsoft's negligence of keeping their software at least up to date with their newer O/S's), I wanted to ask around what would you guys recommend as a replacement Flight Sim that will work on the newer Operating systems? I've heard of X-Plane but I have never used it nor do I have any idea of where to get add-ons (which I am a big add-on user) and other things. If there's anything you guys would recommend outside of X-Plane or if you recommend X-Plane let me know. I'm just having Flight sim withdrawals and I want to play again!

Too easy, get 2nd PC & keep Win xp sp 3; once you get it you can join a virtual airline. Then you can tell everyone what it was like. I haven't joined one because i don't' sim. http://www.diecastmodelaircraft.com/...rtual-airlines

I love X-Plane...It is amazing software! Just make sure you have good graphics (the program is very detailed & can take long to load)!

I bought X-Plane, but it's taken me a little bit of time to get used to it. Firstly it's not like FSX where you can use a keyboard and mouse without the need of a joystick, which isn't a big deal because I want to get a joystick to do flight siming, the other thing is I'm not sure how customizable it is compared to FSX, I've played FSX for a better part of a decade and I was to the point of customizing everything in flight sim to taylor my needs, now I have to re-learn X-Plane... There's small little quirks here and there but like you say @CLT it's definitely graphic intensive, I have a 2 GB dedicated card and it takes a decent amount of time to load.

I didn“t upgrade my PC runnning windows 7 to 10 to be able to play FSX. I am in the sabe boat but I keep playing the way it is. I have lots of Justplane“s add one etc.

X-plane is fantastic and highly customizable. I've been using it exclusively for 10 years because it runs on Windows, Mac and Linux and I have all three systems. Here's a write up fromX-Plane on switching over. http://www.x-plane.com/desktop/switching-to-x-plane/

Here's the link to download version 11 it http://www.x-plane.com/product/desktop/

There is also a very active forum for support and questions at http://x-plane.org

And the company overs direct support at http://www.x-plane.com/support/

I've heard Prepard V4 is amazing. I have no real experience with it though. I've been using V3 with problem and the improvement in performance over FSX is very much noticeable. Since you've been a FSX user for so long Xplane would take a little getting used to but it is also very nice program.
