    Airplane identification please

Hi guys. Need your expert help,

Eppley Airfield, Omaha, Nebraska USA. September 15, 1961. My father snapped this photo from the observation deck of me leaving for the U.S. Air Force way back when. Now that I'm into collecting die cast, thinking I'd like to have a 1:400 likeness.

After a very sumptuous meal at the premier steakhouse in Omaha, USAF put me and my fellow enlistees on a flight from Omaha to Love Field, Dallas, Texas. From there it was a hop on a C-47 to Lackland AFB, San Antonio. I almost lost my earlier steak dinner on that "flight".

JAL, you're really going to love this then. Did some digging through my USAF records and came up with the following:

Braniff Air Lines, Flgt 247 departing Omaha 5:43PM, arriving Dallas 9:35PM, 15 September, 1961.

Additionally listed is Dallas Flgt #595, departing Dallas/Love 11:20PM, arriving San Antonio 11:58PM. I still remember the connecting flight as a military C-47 instead of a civilian DC-3. Years cloud the memory, but the landing at San Antonio remains vivid in my minds' eye. The pilot did a 'wing over' and literally dropped onto the airfield. So cool!

Great memories.. I never got to ride in the old propliners, but I love seeing them. Years ago there were several forlorn DC-4 and at least one (1) DC-6 at Falcon Field in Mesa, AZ and I found them to be fascinating. I used to do walk-arounds just trying to commit every last detail to memory.
