Recently I purchased my fourth and last of the Alaskana Graphics 727s.
The Willis era Golden Nugget was retired and replaced by the Alaskana Graphics in 1972 - one of the first attempts to have a different scheme in a similar style (as pioneered by Braniff and later tried by BA, Mexicana, JetBlue and others). There were four variants highlighting four different Alaskan themes:
- The Prospector (Gold Rush Alaska)
- The Onion Domes (Russian Alaska)
- The Totem pole (Indian Alaska)
- The Eskimo (Inuit Alaska).
The scheme was designed by Vic Warren a graphic artist from Seattle and I really like the four variants. The original Eskimo had no smile and looked kind of stern. This scheme only lasted until 1976 when the airline standardised on the Eskimo who gained his smile at the same time!

As well as the 727s several other types wore the scheme too including:
Grumman Mallards:
707-320:
This has been made by AC but on their old mould - time for a rerelease Andrew?
Several 720s wore non-standard versions:
I wonder whether the DHC-6 Twin Otters ever wore Alaskana graphics?
