  • GJ 1/400 Convair 580

I was just scanning the database and I see they (GJ) have only ever released one (1) model using the 1:400 CV-580 mold (N49). I happen to own this model and I really enjoy it. I am wondering why only one release? Was the mold loaned to someone and lost/destroyed like happened with the ERJ-145?

A couple of nights ago I was listening to Live ATC (LAX) at the gym and the controller called out a "Convair". I assume it was a CV-580.. Anyway, I think it's really cool some of these are still working commercially. I hope GJ decides to do a few more examples.

The release was only recent so there's no way they've lost the mould. Its for the same reason we haven't seen any MD80s since the AA. Gemini do what they can sell in bulk and that isn't classics as far as they are concerned. Picking the FAA model was a dumbass thing to do anyway as I can't believe it sold well unless the FAA paid for it! There are soo many CV-580s that need a 1:400 release and the FAA bird wasn't one of them when there is Frontier, North Central, Republic, Continental black meatball etc etc to be done.
