  • My collection

A couple of pictures (admittedly not very good)of my collection.
I originally intended to collect a few models of the 'regulars' that I used to see at Birmingham in the mid to late seventies. However it then grew to include some of the diversions and then to aircraft I remembered seeing at Heathrow on my 3 trips there. It's expanded further to include aircraft that I never got to see but just love the colour schemes such such as the courtline fleet . Regarding the courtline Tristars I can understand the criticism of the mould but to be honest the colours particularly the yellow don't looķ too far away to me. There's been a couple of disappointments along the way with either missing the end of auctions or being outbid((737/100 being the most recent) but overall it's been an enjoyable hobby. Sorry just realised I've posted in the wrong section!

Good to see your collection is coming along well. I have many of the same models but I see a couple of nice ones you have I haven't. There's a few rare models in there too like the Interflug Tu-154 and BEA Vanguard. It is very easy for the collection criteria to become rather elastic!

Yes it's very easy to get carried away! Luckily I have little nterest in 'modern stuff ' so am very unlikely to ever start buying A320s and any 737s later than 200 series. That said I would have probably got a Monarch A321 just because i flew on one this year if a decent model had been available. Still waiting for a BMA viscount and Monarch 111/500 but I won't hold my breath! Have managed to get some decals printed for the one eleven and have got a donor 727 to convert to G- BDAN in the final black and red Dan Air colour scheme but will I ever get round to it?

Of my over 1600 models more than 1000 are classics so there's plenty of scope for you to grow things. Gemini did make a Gemini 727-200 in the final colours - albeit they misprinted the cockpit windows. A BMA Viscount is a possibility from Aeroclassics in 2018. A Monarch One-Eleven is much less likely as only JC Wings have the mould.

I think I might be in a spot of bother if I tried to collect that many models. They would be worth nearly as much as my house! I hope your right about the BMA viscount, I'm sure they would sell plenty if it was made available. Regarding the Dan Air colour scheme the final incarnation of the red and black was quite short lived and I'm fairly sure they didn't even get round to repainting the whole fleet before the red white and blue with the tapered cheatlines was introduced. G-BDAN was wearing the red and black (without the white dividing line) version when it sadly crashed in 1980. From photographs of BDAN it looks as if it was done in a bit of a hurry as the cheatlines under the nose look as if they were simply overpainted in light grey rather than taken back to bare aluminium like the rest of the lower fuselage.
