  • RStretton's 1:400 Classics Collection

Here are some shots of my 1:400 collection. It's grown from 0 to over 500 models in about 4 years. I started with US classics from the 40s-1990 but have recently branched out to the rest of the world and UK classics too. I am lucky enough to have my own room for display and the models are organised into several separate areas.

The biggest display is of US Trunk airlines. Each has its own block covering the following carriers. The contents of the rows are:

American Airlines | Eastern Air Lines
Trans World Airlines | United Airlines
Delta Air Lines | Braniff International
    Continental Airlines | Northwest Orient
    Western Airlines | National Airlines

On top of this area are parts for the Territorial Airlines (Alaska Airlines, Reeve Aleutian, Wien, Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha) and a small spot for the trunk Capital Airlines:

Moving to a separate bookcase we have shelves for the Local service airlines, Intra-State carriers, 1980s Deregulation startups and 1990-2000 airlines:

The top 2 shelves have the Local service airlines as follows:

    Mohawk | Allegheny / USAir | Pidemont | Ozark
Air West | Bonanza | Wes Coast | Pacific | Southern | North Central / Republic | Frontier | Texas Int

    The next two have:

Northeast Airlines | Southwest | Air California | PSA
1980s startups and 80s Trunk overflow for EA and UA

Ok. I've been working on expanding my 1:400 collection space and it has come at the expense of my huge 1:600 Schabak collection which is all stored away now. The room that has been free'd up is now for the use of my expanding UK classic collection. Only two shelves are completed and I expect the number of models to expand to fill them. Here we have:

The shelf for Channel Airways, Dan Air and British Eagle:

The shelf for British United / British Caledonian:

And lastly the shelf for British Midland (Air UK also at the moment):

There are also shelves for BOAC / BA, BEA / BA Short Haul / Cambrian / BKS and a shelf for UK Charter airlines. The models are out on the shelves but the backing images aren't complete yet.
