The following aircraft are 'British airtours' from the eighties, some airframes still carried the 'Red Tail' livery and others were painted in the new 'Landor' livery.

Bloody beautiful Martin, must say my 2 Big Bird Landor 747's are pride of my collection having catered them many years ago, and I do like my Retro 757 (retirement) one.
Actually im amazed at how many UK liveries I have, Vanguard, VC 10, Tridents and Concordes, yet to get a HS 748!!!!

Hi John,The model was made by Blue Box, it's a L1011-385 Tristar reg G-BEAM, named 'Silver Jubilee Rose'. When she was in service around 1986 she was painted in this livery, up to 1985 she was painted in the 'Landor' scheme and carried the name 'Swansea Bay'. The last photo was taken in 1999, and according to my records is in storage at Oscoda, Michigan.

Hi Martin. Realy like the old Tristar. The GJs 1/200 BA red tail is a great model. In 1/400 BB realy got the shade of red completely wrong.

Hi Mike, yes the BB mold is'nt the best, but it's still the only one (unless you believe what you read on 400sh) and the colours are bad, but i do need these for my collection. Maybe one day i'll go the 1:200 route, but there are still so many 1:400's i need to buy.

Thanks for the info and photos Martin, the model is stunning!I came across a BlueBox B.A tristar before on eBay, and was very tempted to get it after seeing your original photos. Now i may be pushed to purchase point!

and now for my favorite.... The Landor....


“In 1984 as part of the run-up to
privatisation, the management decided to completely revise the
airline's image. The previous livery had lasted ten years, from the
early merger to a new era in growth, and a new livery was needed.
Landor Associates of California was chosen to design the new identity
which, whilst retaining some elements of the previous one, portrayed
a completely different image. The aircraft livery unveiled on that
date was based on a deeper midnight blue for the undersides and
engines and pearl grey for the upper fuselage and tail. The familiar,
quartered Union Jack was retained but the upper part, which extended
further down the tail, was blue instead of red and bore a heraldic
crest with the motto 'To Fly To Serve'. A red 'Speedwing' stripe was
applied along the lower fuselage and the full airline name reappeared
on the forward upper fuselage in midnight-blue Roman capitals. The
familiar Speedbird logo, however, had disappeared”.

G-BDXJ B747-200 'City of Birmingham' ( the one above with the little blue man) first came into service 26th March 1980, she stayed with British airways until 2002 and was sold to European Aviation Air Charter who flew her till 2004, she was then sold on to Air Atlanta Europe until retirement in 2005. She flew her last flight on 25th May 2005 from Gatwick to nearby Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, England. The aircraft was then bought by Aces High Ltd, a company specialising in supplying aircraft for television and film work.
After retirement it was modified to be used as a prop in James Bond movie 'Casino Royal' and changed it's reg to N88892. After 'Casino Royal', G-BDXJ appeared in a VW commercial being towed by a VW Touareg. The BBC programme 'Top Gear' is filmed at Dunsfold and the aircraft can sometimes be seen in the background. G-BDXJ also appears in the first episode of James May's 20th Century, 'Honey, i shrunk the World'. The challenge in the final of Scrapheap Challenge season 10 was to construct a tug vehicle capable of towing a 747, specifically G-BDXJ.
The aircraft has also been used in the Playstation 3 game, Gran Turismo5 on the 'Top Gear test Track', and was also used as the set for the music video of the Westlife song Home.
