The Varig MD-11 has a brilliant colour scheme. Unfortunate 1:500 doesn't seem to be very popular on this forum.

Some great looking models in that line up. I started my collecting days with nothing but Herpa 1:500 purchases. I had the 1999/2000Herpa catalogue and was fascinated by them. They still have the most variety of aircraft/airlines from any manufacturer.

Yes 1:500 is more popular in Europe. It was thanks to Starjets that made Herpa improve their landing gear. The only problem I still have with Herpa in 1;500 scale are the translucent tails.

Still got 70+ 500's and wont part with them, pick of the bunch, guess the Malaysian B777 FOS shes a beauty, one of the best, and commands high prices nowadays!!

Starjets were really really good!!! I dont know what happened to them, but they took 1:500 to another level. I still have a starjets 500 Alitalia B767 300 and B777 200.. My first ever Alitalia model was the 1:500 Herpa B747 200! I still have it today, and will never part with it.

Starjets were great models. Althoug not official they were bascially the GJ or 1:500 scale. For some reason they did not take over Europe like they had hoped. That is why in their last days Schuco took over the Euopean distribution. Unfortunately didn't work. It was too bad they did not survive but it did wake up Herpa. I just wish they would fix the translucent tail.
