Hello friends from MAC<div>
</div><div>First off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Diego, I am an 18 year old college student from Lima, PerĂº. I was introduced to this forum by Steve (steve k) who contacted me over facebook, becoming a good friend right away.</div><div>
</div><div>I mostly collect diecast cars but I have always been big on dioramas, so naturally, I am interested on building an 1/72 airplane out of wood. The reason for this scale is the fact that most of my collection (600-700ish) is S scale (1/64) or around that.</div><div>
</div><div>What do you guys build your airplanes out of? I have got access to balsa wood -which i use to build too- but I'm not sure how that'd work out. Also, have you guys got any official measurements for 1/72 airplanes? such as engine distances, etc. I would appreciate your help a lot, as the semester is almost over and I'm going to have around a month to do nothing </div>

Greetings Diego and a warm welcome to MAC.
I have made a couple of 1/72 scale models from balsa wood, a Shorts 360 and a DH Twin Otter, both in BA livery. Currently I'm using my iPad so can't upload any photos, but will fire up my computer tomorrow and load some pics, so watch this space.
Dimensions for airliners can be found using Airliners.net so scaling them down to 1/72 is easy. I'll come back and give you further guidance in a few days time.
Cheers
Mike

Greetings Diego / James(english translation)<div>this is the shorts 360 I did in 1/72. first off got dimensions from Aircraft data in Airliners.net. Then downloaded a profile image and reduced it to scale. created a balsa wood fuselage by using several layers of thin planks, this then got sanded down. Wings also from thin balsa plank.</div><div>Decals where home made and applied.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div>

Should have taken more time on the base coat to eliminate some imperfections.

The 6 bladed props took a little time to do, getting all the blades to look the same.

Yeah Mike this is amazing stuff mate... you should really start a thread and post your pics ups up there if you've done a few. I really like seeing pictures of how they all come together too.
