Possibly in the future we may let you export your data, but your data is just the price and the sale. Suppose you added every model to your database, tedious, but can be programatically done. And then exported the list. You'd have our database.

PRINTING MY COLLECTION

At that level of effort you could also write as script to screen scrape all the database. Plus you offer import from another database so you are essentially doing what you fear to somebody else. Part of the reason I started here, I liked the seeming openness of this site thinking the import and printing features were leading to someday offering the insurance of exportiing my own data.

--Incorrect. Our import does not import data from w900 other than your personal data. We do NOT copy their database info. We have the same models in our system and have gone through great lengths to create a match for each one.
We aren't saying no, we are saying it may be in the future if we can figure to secure it properly.

All I'm asking for is a way to feel like I could someday get my personal data out if they database is no longer maintained (just like you are offering for w900 people), or features like being able to search my collection aren't added so I could make an excel spreadsheet of my personal collection that I could search. Glad to hear a "may" be in the future, because your first response seemed like that the basic stance was against it.

I've been in companies shutting down and the last thing on anybody's mind is doing new feature Development for free to allow export of data. Or your database server could die or be in a hurricane or be hacked and the backups fail. Also that doesn't address the desire to be able to search my own data. The major reason I buy from waffle is the automatic entry in the database. If I have to create my own spreadsheet to search my stuff and or feel like my data is safe, the value of the db and thus ordering from waffle is significantly less.
Sorry to Spam the printing thread everybody.

I agree an export of some sort would be a good idea. PDF is nice, but not a data export. Not only if the site goes out of business, but also for offline access to a collection, and for custom analyses. Leave out descriptions and photos if you're afraid of a bulk download. Which, as has been pointed out by @foundation, can already be done.

Never meant to imply you would be likely to go out of business or your backups aren't sufficient. While I can search the pdf, that isn't useful for finding what 777s from cathay pacific I have in 1:400 if I have a lot of either 777s or cathay pacific.
As far as fields go I would want:
Aircraft
Airline
Manufacturer
Manufacturer part #
acquired date
acquisition source
price paid
my notes
and the dima notes/comments (for easier finding of model from livery notes)
