I got in my mail this morning a 1;400 model of the Boeing 747SP-68 in the colour scheme of Saudi Arabian Airlines. On checking the database I find there is no such model on there. My problem is that I'm not sure who made it, but have a gut feeling it MIGHT be Gemini Jets. The seller has no idea either, but tells me it was a sample given to him by a manufacturer but can't remember who. I'd like to know how to put a photo up on the database, if that's at all possible. Anyone got any ideas how to go about it? Thanks.

Can you share some photos of it so fellow collectors can enjoy the beauty and ideally confirm the manufacturer?
Then you have a chance of having it added to the database via the Missing Models / Changes / Errors Reqeust Thread (sic)
I'm afraid you'll have to add it to the custom section of your collection for now.

Hi Geoff,
there are only two 747SP moulds in 1:400, Gemini and Herpa. This is a typical Gemini mould, still having this ugly seam on the tail, so probably made before 2004. Newer Gemini 747SP releases don't have this seam anymore. Compare to this one: http://www.diecastmodelaircraft.com/db/model/4102

Very many thanks for your reply to my query. As I said, I had a gut feeling it was Gemini, but found a problem in that it had no wingtip antenna, but neither do a lot of Herpa models Now I have some homework to do Trying to find the makers model number, how many were made, and so on.Kind regards, Geoff

the older GJ 747SP (and also their 747-100 and -200 models) had indeed no wingtip antenna. About 2004 GJ added the antenna and got rid of the seam. The Iran Air SP (see link in my previous post) also did not have the antennas. So I'm very sure it's the GJ mould. Herpas 747SP in 1:400 (only 3 models) has the antennas, only the 1:500 version came without antennas.

Many thanks for all the info. Have checked Geminis web page and they show nothing on there, so I'll give Herpa a look and see if they have any info at all, but I now very much doubt it, but I'll keep hunting. Some one out there knows something about it, I'm sure.

you can try to contact GJ directly or ask on DAC, I think there are some guys from GJ on the forum (Garudarod). Maybe they can tell you. The probably just produced a sample and then for some reason (maybe no permission from the airline?) didn't release it. And as Siegerflieger said, add the info to the other thread so someone can add it to the db.

Thanks for your help. But as I've found no one with any information of any kind I'm giving it to charity and cutting my losses of 57Euros. In my opinion its worth about 10 Euros and nothing more. It would cost more to send it back to the U.K. Oddly D.A.C. have kept very quiet about this because I have no part number for it hence no I.D. for it either. The only person who could have helped would have been Waffle Collectables, but I'll never get an answer from him/it/them, and frankly, I've had enough. twelve hours of my day have been wasted chasing after a load of junk. Kind regards, and many thanks for you help. Geoff Pemberton.

I don't understand the problem now. So far we found out it's a Gemini(100% sure) sample, probably made before 2004. So what else do you need? If it's just a sample, it's doesn't sound unusual if it doesn't have a part number. Why is it a loss now ? Just ask to add it to the db as a sample and provide your pics, everything fine. Other question is, if it would actually be added, seeing the other thread full of requests to add model... so what, still a nice model in your collection

Thank you for your very kind message. The thing that concerned me was that there was no model number, and thought therefor, that it might have been a fake. Try as I might, and believe me I tried for over twelve hours yesterday, to find anything that might help me sort this out. It was even suggested that I contact P.R at Saudi Airlines to see if they could or would be able to help, but that seemed a bit O.T.T.The only thing I can do now, is keep it, I was going to trash it, but you have helped me change my mind. Thank you. Even though I've been on this website for some time, I still have much to learn about the running of it.Again my thanks. Kind regards, Geoff

Glad to be able to help. :)
Look here: http://www.wings900.com/modeldatabas...Remarks=sample , 127 GJ sample models, none of them have an ID.
And models that you can't find in the database ? Too many!
So all in all nothing unusual in your case. The databases are nice tools for research and to keep track of your collection, but after all the model in your cabinet is what counts and not an entry (or lack of it) in a database.
kind regards
Jörg

Dear Jorg. Again many thanks for you guidance over this matter.I had a look on wings 900 data base and it's not there, but as you say the model on display is what counts her, so, bearing that in mind, I'm going to keep it, if only for the novelty value. Kind regards, and many thanks, Geoff
