  • The one that got away..

There was an Air Tahiti Nui A340 on the Waffle 'site last Christmas for a real bargain price and I hesitated not more than 10 minutes before it was gone.. Having grown up around LAX I really wanted that one. Ditto a Southwest Canyon Blue 737-500.

Literally.. just a couple of minutes and *poof* - gone.

So, which models have gotten away from you?

Hmmm.... while I've managed to get them over the years not realizing how rare the Dragon Wings Singapore 747-400s Tropical inflight model was when I could still buy it in-flight a month before the crash of the ill fated aircraft in Taiwan and thus any remaining pieces destroyed. I have still yet to find my Dragon Wings Swissair MD-11 with the blue belly and I still look to this day....

Well, I'm still looking for VARIG 747-300 (classic colors), Lufthansa A340-600 and A321 (I flew this latest last mont from NAP to MUC, MUC to ATH and ATH to FRA), Air France 747-400, KLM 747-300 and American 767-300 (with winglets), but I don't want to pay more than $60... hope GeminiJets, Phoenix, AeroClassics or JC Wings re-release them soon!

It was around January 2012 when an Air Canada B767-300 by aeroclassics was listed in the collection sale and I added it to my cart. Because I was at work I refrained from checking out because I wasn't too sure if the computer was secure. By the time I came home sure enough it was gone. Since then I was looking for that model and up until recently one came up on Ebay and I was lucky to win it. But as Robert said above, you snooze, you lose. It took me over a year to find one.

This happened to me at home: I had a model in my cart and my wife came home.. and proceeded to tell me all about her day. I love my wife but I sure wish I'd just checked out.

Even though they've been re-released by Hogan at some of the European retailers, I wish I had snatched up a few of the British Airways Concordes. Just not sure if I'm willing to part with over $100 US just for one, let alone trying to get both the Landor livery and the new livery. It'd be really nice to have both of them in my 1:200 collection.

A Singapore Airlines B777-312ER, registration 9V-SWA by Herpa in the 1:500 scale, but I blame myself for taking too long.

The Silver Wings 1:600 Braniff Calder DC-8 "Flying Colors".
I never bought one back in the late 1990s, thought it was kind of silly, didn't understand the significance.
I occasionally see them on eBay, but usually damaged or pricey.

It was a little weird though b/c Schabak only had a Super 60/70 mold, so they couldn't actually produce the Calder paint job to proper proportions which was actually a shorter DC-8-62, rather than a long -61 model.

Any recommendations on alternatives, in different scales that are well done?
                      (Gemini, Superjet, Inflight, etc.....)
