What is the most stupid mistake you ever made buying models? (any scale in aviation)

At a point where collecting 1/200 airplane models were taking off (pun intended) & I was starting to move away from collecting 1/400. I got an email from Adam jets that, what i saw was "Mexicana B727 XA-SEA" & Mexicana B727 XA-SEL were going to be in high demand & that it was recommended to buy this before they were not available anymore; $99 ea.


I called & placed my order ASAP, when i received them they were actually Aeroclassics Mexicana B727 XA-SEA 1/400 & Aeroclassics Mexicana B727 XA-SEL 1/400! Stupid doesn't begin to describe how i felt



P.S. i had to pay shipping on top of the price of the models

Twice I have placed the wrong model in the shopping cart, made the purchase, and not noticed the error until the model arrived.

Bought the Mexicana 767-300 1:400 scale by Geminijets to have a Mexican carrier go to my airport. Found out when I got it Mexicana went out of business years ago... Should've bought the AeroMexico 767-300(WL) by Geminijets. FML.

I know someone who actually tried to call Mexicana to make a reservation about a yr after they filed bankruptcy.

The thing I find "comical" is that the Mexicana.com website is still around. It tells how the company is trying to come back from the ashes as a new airline. But it doesn't speak of how they are trying to achieve this or when. It's astonishing to think that a company that has been around as far back as the beginning of commercial aviation is still trying for a comeback.

This is especially bad when you already know what you want but somehow (maybe sticker shock?) you can't commit to the big order. So you make lots of little ones.

I looked up Mexican for the first time & found this disappointing fact (green text)

Founded in 1921, Compañía Mexicana de Aviación, S.A. de C.V. (commonly known as Mexicana) was Mexico's oldest airline and one of theoldest continuously single-branded airlines (after KLM and QANTAS) before ceasing operations on August 28, 2010. The group's closure was announced by the company's recently installed management team a short time after the group filed for Concurso Mercantil (Mexican law equivalent to US Chapter 11) and US Chapter 15. Their headquarters are in the Mexicana de Aviación Tower in Colonia del Valle, Benito Juárez, Mexico City.^[1]
In addition to domestic services, Mexicana operated flights to various international destinations in North America, Central America, the Caribbean, South America and Europe (until August 31). Their primary hub was Mexico City's Benito Juarez International Airport, with secondary hubs at Cancún International Airport, and Guadalajara's Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport.^[2]
Mexicana's main competitors were Aeroméxico (although the two companies "codeshared" on several routes), and low-cost carriers such as Volaris and Interjet. Mexicana was North America's oldest airline and the world's fourth oldest airline operating under the same name, after the Netherlands' KLM, Colombia's Avianca and Australia's Qantas.
In 2009, the Mexicana group of airlines (including Mexicana Click and Mexicana Link) carried just over 11 million passengers (6.6 million on domestic routes and 4.5 million on international routes), using a fleet of some 110 aircraft.^[3]
Over the three years prior to folding, the Mexicana group had increased their share of what was a burgeoning domestic market, from around 22% at the beginning of 2007 to somewhere between 28% and 30% for most of their final 12 months. This was achieved through downsizing mainline Mexicana operations whilst ramping up activities at Mexicana Click (originally envisaged as a low-cost carrier) and Mexicana Link (its CRJ-operating subsidiary based at Guadalajara).^[3]

One of my collection criteria is to collect all of the 1:400 United Airlines planes originally in the DAC database. At this moment I have about 180 of a total 190 in the database ... I have more than once paid for a United plane thinking I didn't already have it (even though I have an elaborate spreadsheet to track what I have and don't have ...). I am in the process of switching my reference database from DAC to the much better (& easier) DIMA database. Buddy

I can so sympathize w/ your situation...one of the hazards when your numbers get up high, but you still looking for more.

I did it again! I purchased about six doubles since the BOTY & now have to resell the doubles on eBay
