As some of you may have noticed, this Weds was my birthday. A great gift I bought myself was this Blue Box 1:200 scale Delta Airlines DC-10-10. This being my first 1:200 scale I am very happy with my purchase.
I purchased this jet to remind me of a memory I still hold till this day which was my first flight that I could remember. The Delta DC-10 offered flights from San Juan to Hartford. CT with a stopover at Orlando Int'l which was the flight that brought me to the states almost 2 decades ago. After doing much research after purchasing the jet I learned a lot about both this jet as well as the DC-10 altogether. First thing is first, Delta had DC-10's twice: In the 70's Delta grabbed a few DC-10's while engine manufacturer Rolls Royce faced Bankruptcy before the L1011 be delivered to Delta, and the second time Delta acquired the DC-10 was during their acquisition of Western Airlines. My story of my first DC-10 flight starts during the second acquisition of Delta's DC-10's, my Blue Box Delta's story begins the first time Delta acquired the DC-10 and this is what I will focus on...
N601DA - Delta DC-10-10, this jet was built 8/28/1972. Being purchased by United Airlines, N601DA started it's life as a lease that was given to Delta Airlines. On October 10th 1972 this jet was delivered to Delta Airlines in it's "widget" livery, one of my favorite liveries. This registration only stayed for less than 2.5 years when Delta started recieving it's L1011's and N601DA was returned back to United and lived the life as N1833U from April 1975 until October 1997 when it was sold to FedEx and converted to an DC-10F freighter. The freighter was now registered as N377FE and in the summer of 2001 she received her MD-10F conversion and still flies till this day. This jet has lived an interesting life as 3 different owners. After finding ALL of this out this jet made me appreciate classic jets and the age of the tri-jets (one of my favorite types of jets). Now we go to the goodness of the pictures. Hope you guys enjoy!

I love the details of the tail on this picture. Really shows you the detail and the beauty of having an engine mounted on the tail.

The engine on the tail and wings have amazing details on this model. I love how the fan blades do spin on this model.

Thanks for viewing!
