I know this is'nt in the F1 thread but...
Question for John...
I noticed the Melbourne Fi circuit uses some main roads and some track roads from the aerial shots, is there a race circuit close to the road for normal racing? and how do you go about closing the city roads for the F!?

Hey Martin, when the Melbourne F1 is not in action, Albert park as it is called, it open to public with the roads etc. It is a very popular place to have a BBQ, walk the dog,jog, cycle etc.. There is no actual circuit anywhere near it, so you wouldnt even no that it existed if you came in the next month. The circuit is 3km from the CBD.
<DIV></DIV>Various road closures take place from as early as Feb 13 to March 30, so eventually the circuit takes shape. Also in that time, Albert park is closed to the public.

Thanks John, i've just taken a look at the circuit, i had'nt realised it was round a lake, i thought it ran along the coast road. I preume the only building that remains after the F1 is the main stand with the pit lane, is that used for other things when it's not F1 season?

A few buildings remain all year round Martin. The circuit also runs right along all the hotels in Melbourne. The lake is huge, and is used for various water activities.

Good image of the Albert park lake and the F1 track which surrounds it Steve. It is actually a very beautiful and relaxing part of the town, when the racing cars aint screaming down the track.

Hey John that certainly is good news. For me I will always suffer from stones. I have an extra pocket in the right kidney. This pocket doesn't drain so the particles will build up in the pocket. Nothing they can do for it.

Just heard some news that Irish-Australian AFL (Australian Football League) Melbourne football clubplayer and brownlow medalist Jim Stynes is in hospital atm, and is very very ill. Jim has been fighting tumors for a few years now, and is not in a good place atm.
<DIV>Jim has made his fight very public, doing docos on tv, and also being the president of the club at the same time.</DIV>
<DIV>I have had the honor of meeting Jim back in 2008 at the Victoria v All Stars game at the MCG. He is the most humble and inspirational guy someone can meet.</DIV>
